There are many successful and powerful meditation techniques, but the repetition of a mantra is one of the most effective of all ways to meditate. Repeating a mantra can help us control our breathing and more effectively time our meditation activities. A mantra can be anything, from a simple word to a common phrase. The most important thing is that a mantra should be something that is personally meaningful to you.
In order for a mantra to be its most effective, it should have a personal significance to you. When taking a meditation class of course you will need to repeat whatever word or phrase the instructor is using, but when meditating on your own you are free to make up whatever mantra is best for you.
Meditating with the help of a mantra has a number of important affects on the body, the spirit, the mind and the soul. Some of the most powerful benefits of regular mantra meditation are physical in nature, and they include things like lower blood pressure, a greater sense of well being and lower levels of stress. In fact, meditation is such an important stress reliever that more and more doctors are prescribing it for their patients.
During a mantra meditation, the practitioner may feel that he or she is getting in tune with his or her actual existence and inner self. The practitioner of this form of meditation may feel that he or she is becoming conscious of his or her own existence, and getting in tune with the energy that makes up that existence and intelligence. When a person knows him or herself, he or she will be able to change, and mantra meditation can be instrumental in this change.
Mantra meditation can have a profound impact on our energy levels, as well as on our levels of self awareness. Those who meditate frequently often report having a much greater feeling of energy than those who meditate infrequently or not at all.
One great way to use mantra meditation to increase your level of energy is to practice it first thing in the morning. Schedule time for a ten or fifteen minute session of mantra meditation immediately upon waking every morning. Make this mantra meditation part of your morning ritual. During the early morning hours the subconscious mind is at its most open and receptive, making this the perfect time to meditate. After only a few minutes of mantra meditation, most people feel invigorated, energized and ready to face the day with confidence.
No matter what time of day you meditate, it is a good idea to set aside a special place for this meditation. This special place can be an entire room, or it can simply be a corner of the room, or a special spot within a larger room. Many people find that setting aside a corner of the bedroom for morning meditation is a good practice. Many people also find that stocking this area with special items like scented candles, incense or essential aromatherapy oils, is a good practice as well. These special items will help you get into the mood for meditation quickly, and they can help you relax more completely as well.
